At Shell, we want everyone who visits our websites and applications to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding. We proactively adopt an approach that addresses diverse needs and leverages accessibility technology, following W3C’s WCAG 2.2 A and AA standards and guidelines.
Our websites and applications allow you to find relevant information, access learning content, participate in Global Inspiration Award Ceremony, and explore educational resources. In some cases, setting up an account is required to access certain services.
Our Commitment
At Shell, we’re committed to integrating accessibility and inclusivity into all our content and design. We aim to ensure that Shell NXplorers learning experiences are accessible to students, educators, and partners of all abilities. Our services meet accessibility requirements, for example, by allowing users to:
- Adjust Colours, Contrast Levels, and Fonts: Optimise the website’s colours, contrast levels, and fonts for better readability and accessibility.
- View the website comfortably in both portrait and landscape orientations on mobile devices.
- Zoom in up to 400% without text overlapping or losing clarity for most content.
- Access most of the website’s content using screen readers like Narrator, JAWS or NVDA.
- Navigate most of the website using assistive technologies.
- Access the majority of the Video content with the help of Captions and Transcripts.
- We focus on presenting information in an understandable way. We provide information in accessible text formats that support assistive technologies. This ensures content can be presented in different ways, such as through visual, auditory, or tactile means, with readable fonts, sufficient contrast, and adjustable spacing to suit individual needs and usage conditions.

Our service delivery process includes regular assessments and updates to ensure compliance with accessibility standards. We monitor our digital content continuously to maintain high accessibility standards and address any issues promptly.

We have made our internal and external sites compatible with as many browsers, platforms, and hardware as possible, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.

Making pages easier to read
When text is too small web pages can be difficult to view. Several popular browsers including Chrome, Safari, Edge, and Firefox allow you to zoom in and out using your mouse and keyboard shortcuts, as follows (use the Control key in Windows systems, and the Command key in Mac OS):
- Hold the Control/Command key and scroll up or down to zoom in or out
- Hold the Control/Command key and press + or – to zoom in or out
Magnifying your screen
It may be more convenient to magnify your screen.
All recent versions of Windows include a magnifier, which can enlarge a portion of the screen. However, you may find you require fully functional magnification software.

The Apple Zoom feature is supported not just by Apple’s OS X, but currently on: iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro.
Using a screen reader
Screen reader programs will read the content of the web page to the user.
Windows users can access Windows Narrator which converts on-screen text into speech. A freeware application - NVDA is also available for use.
In Apple’s OSX operating system, users will find the VoiceOver feature. Third-party screen readers are also available such as JAWS (Job Access With Speech).
Android users can access the Talkback feature & iPhone or ipad users can access the Voiceover feature.
Accessing PDF content
We utilize PDF files to maintain the integrity and original formatting of our documents. To open and view PDF files, you can download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge.
Adobe also publishes information on accessing PDFs using screen readers (PDF)
